Liberty and Co. Occasional Table

An exceptional late C19th lacquered timber and papier mâché tilt top occasional table from Liberty and Co.

Art Nouveau painted and gilded decoration with a hand painted scene in oil to the centre of the table top depicting a stately home (the house itself in mother of pearl inlay) with village in the background.

Stamped to the underside ‘Liberty and Co.’ with a hand written letter also pasted to the underside, dated 1897 and almost certainly from the famous London store, expressing thanks and birthday wishes to the original recipient of the table which it appears was a gift: “… we remain your most humble servants.”

One could suppose that the house depicted could be the home of the recipient.

The table is also in exceptional condition with minimal signs of damage, no alterations or restoration.

Measurements (top flat): H: 28” (71cm); D: 26” (66cm).
