Italian School Portrait of Beatrice Cenci

After Guido Reni (1575-1642) or Ginevra Cantofoli (Italian, 1618-1672), portrait of Beatrice Cenci.

For a long time attributed to Guido Reni but, more recently to Cantofoli, the original portrait is housed in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Rome.

It dealt with the controversial subject of Beatrice Cenci a young woman who was executed by Papal authorities, in 1599, for the murder of her abusive father.

This accomplished C18th or early C19th copy has been cleaned and relined in the recent past.

Measurements: H: 18.5” (47cm); 14.75” (37.5cm).
