A hand painted linen banner, on turned wooden hangers, advertising live performances by Harry Yerkes’ ‘Famous Flotilla Orchestra’.
Harry Yerkes (1872-1954) was a marimba player, inventor, and recording manager who assembled many recording sessions in the early years of jazz.
Yerkes’ various ensembles, on Columbia Records, are estimated to have had some of the best selling recordings in 1919 and 1921.
This banner would have toured with the orchestra and hung in the foyer of the venues they were performing at.
Wear commensurate with age and some craquelure to the paint but overall in remarkably good order.
American, c1920’s.
