A striking, early C19th high comb back windsor chair, almost certainly originating from Scotland, specifically the rural West Highlands.
Constructed predominantly in ash, with distinctive shaped seat, retaining the majority of its original green painted finish.
For comparable chairs, see ‘Scottish Vernacular Furniture’ by Bernard Cotton, pages 203-205).
The chair has lost some height and looks to have once had a stretcher, though it remains remarkably sturdy.
