C18th Elm Dresser Base

£1,995.00

A wonderful, late C18th elm dresser base from the Shropshire/Welsh borders.

Unusually tall, with charmingly primitive cabriole front legs, this is one of the best examples of its type I’ve come across.

Sublime colour, grain and patination with lovely Cupid’s bow detail to the sides and turned fruitwood knob handles.

English or Welsh, c1780.

No indication that the base ever had an associated rack and, given its height, this seems unlikely. Some signs of historic woodworm as you’d expect with elm but nothing offensive. Expert, almost invisible tip repairs to the back legs.

Measurements: H: 35” (89cm); W: 73.25” (186cm); D: 16.5” (42cm).
