A C19th painted wooden domestic barrow with decorative turned handles and original painted finish. Similar to a book barrow in appearance but of larger scale, with removable back panel.
Its decorative appearance and lack of external wear suggest it was made to be used indoors, perhaps by staff to transport items around the main house.
Provenance: Reputedly from Sandon Hall, Staffordshire home of the Earls of Harrowby, purchased following Sotheby’s house sale of October 6th, 1992.
Measurements: H: 24.5” (62cm); W: 62” (157.5cm); D: 23.5” (60cm).
