Early C18th Primitive Welsh Blacksmith’s Stool

A simple, yet sculptural, early C18th (though possibly even earlier), blacksmith’s work stool from South West Wales.

Constructed in ash and almost certainly made by the blacksmith’s own hand; this remarkable survivor is peppered with the scars of its history: from scorch marks to small anvil holes and imbedded horseshoe nails, even remnants of the bark of the tree from which it was made, some 300 plus years ago.

Welsh, c1700.

Measurements: H: 18.5” (47cm); W: 17” (43cm); D: 9” (23cm).
