The Newfoundland trader Blodwen was built by David Jones in Porthmadog in 1891. One of the first of the ‘Western Ocean Yachts’, in 1901 she made record passage from Newfoundland to Patras in Greece (some 4,500 miles) in 22 days. She was eventually wrecked off Alicante, Spain in 1917.
