Tray Table from The Panklibanon

A C19th Papier Mache tray (c1840) with timeworn marbled and gilt decoration on a later (20th century) carved and painted base.

The tray was most likely made in the workshops of Jennens and Bettridge but bears a retailers stamp to the underside for ‘Panklibanon, 55 and 58 Baker Street, Portman Square.’

The Panklibanon was the grandly named stove, grate and range manufactory turned furnishing showroom established, within the famous Baker Street Bazaar, by London wine merchant and entrepreneur William Boulnois in 1840.
